Symptoms

Bacterial vaginosis causes no symptoms in at least half of women. When it becomes noticeable, it is usually a thin, off-white vaginal discharge that smells distinctly “fishy” and is very uncomfortable for many women. The odor often increases after sexual intercourse and during menstruation.

Complaints such as itching, burning and dryness of the vagina are more likely to indicate inflammation of the vagina (vaginitis). The area around the entrance to the vagina is often red and the lining of the vagina is swollen. There may also be problems with urination and sexual intercourse.

Risk factors

The risk of vaginosis increases if women are very sexually active - for example, if they have a new sexual partner or change them often.

Excessive intimate hygiene or hormonal changes can disrupt the vaginal flora and promote vaginosis.

What type of Vaginal Discharge?

There Are 3 type of discharge;

White Discharge - A yeast infection has a cottage cheese-like discharge. You may also feel itching or burning in your vagina and vulva. Bacterial vaginosis.

Yellow Discharge - Gonorrhea and chlamydia are STIs that can produce an abnormal discharge due to infecting the cervix. which is thought to be caused by a disruption of vaginal flora.

Grey Discharge - Grey discharge is most commonly a sign of bacterial vaginosis, an imbalance of bacteria that's causing an infection.
